Conchetts opportunity to design a pair of hand painted TOMS shoes for Terri J. Vaughn (Lovita from The Steve Harvey Show)

24 Aug

So, it’s another slow day at work (people don’t shop in august) as I’m starting to
fall asleep standing up in walks MALINDA WILLIAMS!! …. I almost lost it. I don’t
think she knew I knew who she was as she said, “she’s on the phone”
I’m thinking who’s is this ‘she’ you’re referring to? Then in walks Terri Vaughn (known for her role as Lovita from The Steve Harvey Show). I turned red, full of excitement, as these women were role models to me.

When I was 11 years old Terri spoke at the opera house on 3rd St, San Francisco, she
kept saying she was living proof that ‘…your past does not define you….’ I was thrilled and inspired to meet someone that came from my hometown that was on T.V.
Because of her, I want to be a role model to black young women coming up behind me.

Terri and Malinda (yeh!, we’re on first name basis now, lol) were really chilled. You can
tell they just wanted to shop but they entertained my conversation as they
looked around. Terri was shopping for a huge event ” The 7th Annual Angel Awards Benefit
” so after trying on about 6 dresses nothing worked. But I noticed they
were wearing comfy shoes, so I approached her about my shoes “of course”. I offered to design a custom pair of Conchetts
Toms. I gave her my card and they left…

Of course I ran home followed Terri on Facebook and Twitter and I sent her this
……………

About Conchetts Hand painted TOMS and more

CONCHETTA WASHINGTON I have been told that I am a pretty unique person, not in a quirky way, but because I have pursued a life uncommon to most. I possess rare qualities that are somewhat out of the ordinary and I am learning to embrace and showcase them in my fashion sense. My career in retail began at the age of 16. I was influenced by popular culture and talented artists such as The spice Girls, T.L.C, Salt & Pepper and Destiny’s Child. I look up to other designers like L.A.M.B, Marc Jacobs and Chloe. Throughout my working life, I have always been the top seller and as soon as I consistently started making more on my commission checks, I knew it was time to pursue my passion and go into business for myself. I often think about how my designs reflect my personality. And sometimes I wonder if I am influencing my style or if it is the other way around. I don’t know if one is better than the other, but either way is okay. We all inject our personalities in what we wear, and sometimes we wear things to help us become someone we want to be. And, in that sense, I use fashion to bridge the gap between oddness and normalcy. Who I really am is someone who does not take fashion too seriously - I like to mix things up, show a little skin and not be afraid to try something different. I want to create fashions that are fun, playful yet sexy. My designs will allow you to dress like it’s your day off! That’s the great thing about fashion —the boundaries are, there are no boundaries….
